2016 Annual General Meeting Print E-mail

On Saturday, July 16, Scouts Australia NSW held its Annual General Meeting for 2016 at Baden-Powell Scout Centre.

This year’s event had a strong theme of thanks and acknowledgement, as the Board paid tribute to the AJ2016 Jamboree Executive Committee for their fantastic contribution to the 24th Australian Jamboree held in NSW this January.

Adult Recognition Awards were presented to Adult Members who have gone above and beyond in Scouting, which included the Meritorious Service Award, Silver Wattle, Silver Koala, Silver Emu and Silver Kangaroo. Adult Recognition Award recipients will be officially announced to the public on August 1.

Chief Commissioner Doug Menzies was farewelled at the State Annual General Meeting in July.

Most significantly, it was also a chance to farewell and acknowledge the contribution of Vice-President Alan Overton AM and Chief Commissioner Doug Menzies OAM. For their long-standing commitment, they were both presented with a framed scarf and plaque. Neville Henderson graciously accepted the gift on Alan’s behalf.

The AGM welcomed some new faces including General Manager Andrew Smith AM and newly appointed Chief Commissioner Neville Tomkins AM, who will both be playing significant roles in the future of Scouts Australia NSW.

Following a ballot, it was announced The Hon John Price AM will fill the role of Vice-President, while Sarah Neill was elected as State Commissioner Guides NSW and ACT.

However on this occasion, The Board chose to accept a suggestion that the results of the direct vote for Life Councillor be announced at a later date.

Members of the Branch Council received the Annual Review and Financial Report for 2016. The Annual Review is available to download here.

The AGM concluded with a presentation to Doug Menzies OAM to signify his term as Chief Commissioner, and his wife Anne Menzies, for her support throughout the journey.

We’d like to thank everyone involved in making this Scouting year a success.
