|A Weekend of Time Travel at State Rally|
On August 5-7, more than 200 Scout Troops and Guide Units flocked to Glenfield Scout Activity Centre for a weekend of time travel at State Rally 2016.
It was an amazing turn out this year (maybe even the best yet!) with up to 950 Scouts and Guides and 275 Leaders, Rovers and Venturers showing up for their next camping adventure.
Over the weekend, Patrols participated in a range of activities across three Activity RAC’s, where they had a chance to learn and practice important skills, while also having fun.
The ‘Back to the Future’ Activity RAC focused on science and fire. ‘The 70s’ base taught lessons on bullying, music and theatre. While the ‘Dark Ages’ RAC tested the patrols’ construction and first aid skills. Each RAC provided five 1 hour activities and Youth chose two from each.
Saturday night was buzzing with excitement as well, as Scouts and Guides got to pick between trying out the horizontal bungie or climbing wall, dancing the night away at the disco, or sitting back and relaxing while watching a movie or chatting around a fire.
At the closing ceremony, Scouts met newly appointed Scouts Australia NSW Chief Commissioner Neville Tomkins OAM, JP who encouraged each Youth Member to participate in his ‘Chief Commissioner’s Challenge’ by recruiting four new young people to Scouting within 12 months.
Neville also met with members of the State Scout Youth Council, who showed him around to each Activity RAC. He even got involved in a few of the activities.
Congratulations to the ‘Quantum State’ Patrol from 1st Balmoral Scouts who claimed 1st place in the competition. They were followed by ‘The Whovians’ from 1st Wangi Scouts in 2nd place, and ‘Dayyym Mortdale’ from 2nd Mortdale Girl Guides who came 3rd.
Needless to say, it was a lot of fun for everyone!
