AJ's Got Talent Grand Finalist Performs at Sydney Opera House with Popular Comedian Print E-mail

You may remember James McNaughton, a Scout from 1st Oyster Bay, for the stand-up routine he delivered at the Grand Final of AJ’s Got Talent. Before the show, James had been receiving some last-minute private coaching from well-known Aussie comedian, Adam Hills! One of the Leaders in James’ Troop (C520), Aaron Le Clerc, is an old school-friend of the comic, and had contacted him on James’ behalf.

Adam was more than happy to help James out with some tricks of the trade, including pointers on how to quash stage fright. Adam himself was involved in Scouts growing up, and cut his teeth at the Australian Jamboree in ’82/’83, where he sang “Jake the Peg” in the talent show.

Now, here’s where the story takes a turn for the rather phenomenal!

Adam later tuned into JNN Live Stream to watch James’ set, and was so pleased with his stellar performance at AJ’s Got Talent, he invited James and Aaron, along with their families, to his sell-out show Clown Heart at the Sydney Opera House.

But the real surprise was when Adam paused during the show and invited a gobsmacked James onstage to perform his routine in front of a packed audience. James obliged, and his six minute performance elicited a fantastic response from the audience, who laughed throughout and rose to a standing ovation as he returned to his seat.

Afterwards, James, Aaron and their families were invited to join Adam in the Opera House Green Room, where James debriefed with his new mentor and posed for pictures.

James, who represents the South Metropolitan region, was blown away by the experience. He’d begun the day at 5am, having spent the last night of AJ2016 sleeping under the stars, and left the Opera House at midnight a newly minted comedy star!

James hadn’t appeared on stage before AJ’s Got Talent, so his overnight star turn was quite an achievement to say the least – it just goes to show what can happen when you embrace the ethos of Scouts and AJ2016, and Leap Into Adventure!

Congratulations James, and a big thank you to Aaron Le Clerc and Adam Hill for giving this Scout the chance to really shine!
