The Scouts Australia NSW Board of Directors invites suitable candidates to apply for three Non-Executive Director roles.

The Organisation

Scouts NSW engages and inspires young Australians to develop confidence, resilience and leadership.

For more than one hundred years Scouts has offered well-established, safe environments that let Australian children enjoy adventures, expand their horizons and become self-sufficient. As Scouts progress through the program, they gain confidence in themselves, and dealing with life’s curves; they acquire problem solving, risk management and leadership skills; and they learn the importance of honesty, integrity and community service.

The Positions

Three (3) Non-Executive Director positions on the Board of Directors are to be filled at the Scouts NSW AGM on 15 July 2017. The Board comprises twelve people of whom six are Ex Officio Directors and six are Non-Executive Directors. Board Members are not remunerated by Scouts NSW. As a Director, you are responsible and accountable for the overall governance of the Association.
For more than 100 years, Scouts have abided by the Scout Law and Promise. Board Members are asked to sign a Director’s letter that recognises their commitment to the values and ideals of Scouting. This includes an agreement to abide by the Code of Conduct for Adults in Scouting.

The Candidate

Non-Executive Directors should be nominated on the basis of appropriate qualifications, experience and skills. In order to provide an appropriate mix of skills across the Board membership, candidates with the following experience and skills are being sought for positions in 2017:

Honorary Treasurer

The Treasurer is responsible for the management of the finances and accounts of the Corporation under the direction of the Board and reports on such matters to the Board as it requires.

Skills and Qualifications for Treasurer:

  • Current CA or CPA qualification
  • Executive management experience at a NFP with revenue $10M+
  • Prior Director experience in commercial and/ or NFP organisations with revenue $10M+

Government Relations and Corporate Affairs

  • Executive management experience in the development of strategic relationships with state and/or Federal government
  • Advocacy and public policy experience in corporate or NFP organisations

Corporate Governance and Strategy

  • Executive management experience in the development of corporate governance programs and strategic planning
  • Qualifications in Corporate Governance or Business

Duties and Obligations

As a Non-Executive Director you will be expected to:

  • Understand your legal duties and responsibilities
  • Be accountable for your performance and conduct as a member of the Board
  • Actively support the strategic direction of Scouts NSW and the Chief Commissioner’s strategic priorities

Individuals should only nominate if they are willing, able and have enough time to make the commitment. Directors must be 18 years or older.
