|North Coast Region Venturers Run Bearskin|
On September 5-6 around 100 Scouts, Venturers, Rovers and their Leaders attended the 2nd Annual Bearskin event at Barcoongere State Forest, North of Coffs Harbour.
The event was completely organised and run by Venturers from the North Coast Region, and was deemed a wonderful success!
Over the weekend, Scouts formed patrol teams and navigated around the forest, with their equipment, and completed a range of physical challenges before building a campsite for the night.
Under the stars the Scouts relaxed by the fire with music, dinner and laughter as they prepared for the challenges ahead.
Participants used their leadership, planning and execution skills as a team to get through activities such as a commando course, tree climbing, crate stacking and a high wire course. Other highlights included knot tying, codes and signals, fire lighting, camp cooking and an obstacle course.
By the end, every team was awarded with points and congratulated the patrol team from Bellingen for coming first place.
Leader and Mentor, Steve Pickering said "It is so rewarding to see the youth putting into practice all the skills they learn in Scouting. These weekends are a vital part of our program."
While Venturer Scout and 2015 Event Director said "It was an awesome event - we can bear-ly wait til next year."
The North Coast Region are looking forward next year's Bearskin and encourage Scouts, Venturers, Rovers and Leaders from all Regions to join in next time.
