Scouts Australia NSW Seeks Volunteer State Finance Committee Member

 

The Scouts Australia NSW State Finance Committee (SFC) is seeking to fill a vacancy.

The Committee recommends financial strategy to the Board of Directors and safeguards all cash and investments assets by overseeing budget preparation, expenditure approval, policy setting and financial reporting.   

The Committee consists of the Honorary State Treasurer, a representative of six country  regions, a representative of four metropolitan regions, a representative of all State Cost Centres, the Chair of the State Investment Committee (or his/her delegate), an accountant or financial expert from outside the movement, and one person under 30 years of age with appropriate financial knowledge.

The Committee may call upon persons who have special expertise to attend meetings for advice and counsel, but these persons do not have a right to vote. 

The position to be filled is a representative for all State Cost Centres, who will communicate the interests of that Cost Centre to the Committee.

The person will be a CPA or CA qualified and will also have experience in or be comfortable performing the following tasks:

  • preparing annual budgets and annual accounts;
  • liaising with auditors;
  • using the Investment Strategy to discuss Liquid and Investment Funds;
  • contributing to discussions about expenditure authority limits and procedures to ensure limits aren’t exceeded;
  • contributing to the development of a procedure to facilitate communication between the Finance Committee, the Asset Purchasing Committee and the Property Committee;
  • monitoring the financial performance of all Cost Centres.

The State Finance Committee meets monthly commencing in January of each year or at other additional times as deemed necessary by the Committee. Members are expected to attend a minimum of 80% of all meetings. Meetings are held at State Office in Sydney Olympic Park or in Sydney CBD. Members may attend by teleconference.
