Chief Scout of Victoria, Shane Jacobson meets 3rd Bathurst at Mount Panorama
Pedders Racing star co-driver Shane Jacobson, the Chief Scout of Victoria, welcomed the 3rd Bathurst Scout Group to Mount Panorama for a pit tour, tech talk and meet and greet with the Australian star and his Pedders crew last weekend.
Shane and the crew opened the pit lane doors to showcase teamwork, encourage achieving dreams and teach the importance of communication, honesty and safety everywhere, from racing to the home.
Joeys, Cubs, Scouts, Venturers, Rovers, their Leaders and families spent time in the #86, experiencing the view of the drivers, discussing the differences between a road and race vehicle, learning the basics of the team’s race weekend checklist and learning how responsibility is key to becoming a valuable crew member, and member of the wider motor sport and social community.
David McInroy, Group Leader of the 3rd Bathurst Scout Group, explained,
“It was such a positive experience for our Scouts to be able to join the team on the mountain, and to see the value of the skills that we teach being put into action to achieve results in a safe and enjoyable environment. All of the age groups, from Joeys to our leaders, had a great time meeting Shane as one of us and as a race driver, as he has a welcoming personality and a great influence that will help encourage the development of our Scouts. To have the Pedders Racing team welcome us into their garage during a competition weekend was pretty special for our group, and we are thankful for the opportunity to go behind the scenes.”
Shane Jacobson added,
“It was great to give the Scouts an opportunity to see the inner workings of our race team, as well as give them a chance to get up close and personal with the car and the crew.”
Grant Phillips, Team Principal and 86 owner/driver, was thrilled to be able to continue with the team’s open garage policy, saying,
“We have always been a team to invite people into the garage to really experience what we do, to learn that we are all about people, and to showcase the importance of the support we receive from our sponsors and supporters. There are so many things that make a team a real family, and the Scouts were all very keen to talk to our crew and look over the car as many had not had the opportunity to be at Mount Panorama in a garage and pit lane before. The smiles said it all.”
