|Women of Aviation Worldwide Week At the Air Activity Centre|
On Sunday March 13, the Air Activity Centre held a special activity day for Girl Guides, to celebrate Women of Aviation Worldwide Week.
48 Guides and their Leaders made the trip to Camden early in the morning, where their action packed day was filled with flying in some of the aircraft, taking a tour around the airport, learning about flight simulators and navigation mapping and hearing all about the Air Force by two representatives.
Afterwards, many even expressed interest in learning to fly!
Chief Commissioner Doug Menzies also came along on the day to meet the girls and Air Activity Centre members and participate in some of the activities.
Overall, it was a very successful and fun day for all!
Women of Aviation Worldwide Week is designed to raise awareness of aviation opportunities available to girls of all ages while celebrating the accomplishments of past and present women of aviation. Currently only approximately 6% of licenced pilots are women.
The Air Activity Centre has two female activity pilots as part of the team of pilots who regularly fly youth members on activity days.
