|Meet a Leader|
PROFILE: Lyn Mann (SCJS)
How long have you been involved in Scouts? Were you a youth member?
18 years. Was a Brownie way back when... but didn't go up to Guides because they were too rough!
What prompted you to train as a Joey Scout Leader? How long did it take?
Saw an ad in the local paper that there was this new section starting at the local Scout hall. With a boy just turned 6 and another boy 4 so I thought it a great idea that I became a leader. Training courses took 4 months, but I have really been in training ever since- you never stop learning!
What do you think are the key benefits of being a Leader?
Most people will say that there is huge benefit to your children, yes thats right, but you must also realise the enormous personal benefit one gets from taking on the responsibility and fun of Scout leading. An additional benefit is being able to pass on the things I have learned to others.
Recount one of your favourite Leader experiences.
Teaching the action song Oni Wani to the Joey Scouts and then watching their parents try it, with hilarious results.
