Name: Gai Green
Role in Scouts: State Commissioner (New Program Implementation)
Day Job: Self Employed Bookkeeper
Hobbies and Interests: I love camping in my caravan with friends when I'm not Scouting.
Favourite moment in Scouting: Opening Ceremony 2007 Australian Jamboree, it was my first Jamboree and Rogue Traders played. The atmosphere was amazing. We all had the best time. Receiving my 3rd Wood Bead as an Assistant Leader Trainer with Scouts NSW was also a special time in Scouting.
What inspired you to work with youth members? I just love watching our youth grow and have fun. I want to make a difference in the lives of our young people.
What key thing has a youth member said to you that has stayed with you? After closing parade at a weekend camp for Cubs, one of the cubs came up to me and said, "Thanks for camp Akela, it was the best weekend I've ever had." His smile was amazing, so was mine.
Why did you become a Youth Safe Advocate? I became a Youth Safe Advocate because every child has the right to feel safe and know there is someone nearby they can talk to openly.
Why is the Youth Safe Advocate scheme important for Scouts NSW? We have a "Duty of Care" to every member we look after. Its important for every Youth Member to feel safe in our movement and know they can talk to me if they don't feel safe.
What is the key message you would everyone to remember about the Youth Safe Advocate scheme? The Youth Safe Advocates scheme is a commitment by adults in Scouting to keep young people safe. We are here for any younger member of our Organisation to come and talk to us anytime they feel the need. We are all here to help.
