The Chief Commissioner, Neville Tomkins OAM, JP, is pleased to announce the appointment of two new State Commissioners, following a comprehensive merit selection process. Meg Cummins will take on the State Commissioner (Youth Empowerment) role, while Stan Prout steps in as State Commissioner (Air Activities).
Meg Cummins, State Commissioner (Youth Empowerment)
Meg became a member of Scouts at the age of 7 at 1st Keiraville. She progressed through the Sections, achieving the Peak Awards for each and is now a Rover at 1st Austinmer. Meg is in her 3rd year of National Youth Council, has been an active member of the NSW State Youth Council and Youth Environment Teams, and is currently the State Coordinator for the You+Lead Course. She is also a facilitator for the Youth Program Review.
Meg looks forward to the challenges that will come with being the State Commissioner for Youth Empowerment. She will network within NSW, Australia and the world to ensure Youth Empowerment is at the forefront of Scouting across NSW. The Youth Empowerment role holds many opportunities to inspire Scouts around NSW to be change makers, and work towards ensuring that Scouts Australia remains Australia’s leading youth movement.
Stan Prout, State Commissioner (Air Activities)
As the new State Commissioner (Air Activities), Stan Prout brings a wealth of aviation, management and voluntary experience to the Air Activity Centre. With over 40 years’ experience as an airline pilot (including 27 years as a Boeing 747 Captain, and 23 years involvement in aviation regulatory reform specialising in fatigue risk management), Stan is well respected within the aviation community. As a keen Cessna 172 pilot and aircraft owner himself, Stan is looking forward to working with the team of dedicated volunteers that help run the Scouts NSW Air Activity Centre at Camden Airport.
The Air Activity Centre has been in operation for over 45 years. With a fleet of four modern Cessna 172 aircraft, it has flown over 60,000 Scouting members and their families, and trained over 500 pilots. The Air Activity Centre exists to further the aims of Scouting in the development of life skills such as responsibility, leadership and teamwork through aviation related Activity Day programs for youth members, and flying training for Venturer age and adult members in Scout owned aircraft.
