Announcement of new Deputy Chief Commissioner (Youth and Program Support)

Following the completion of a merit-based selection process, Scouts NSW is pleased to announce Luke Saunders has been appointed to the role of Deputy Chief Commissioner (Youth and Program Support).

Luke served as the inaugural Deputy Chief Commissioner of Scouts Australia (under 30 years of age) from 2019-2021, where he ensured Scouts Australia had a strong focus on the enablement of young people across all levels of the Movement.  He developed and implemented the Youth Empowerment – Evolution Towards 2023 initiative, and provided oversight to a team of senior Deputy National Commissioners.  At different times, Luke acted as the Chief Commissioner of Scouts Australia.

Luke was also the inaugural State Commissioner (Rovers) under the age of 30 years for Scouts NSW, and subsequently occupied the role of Region Advisor (Greater Western Sydney).  He served as an ex-officio Director on our Board of Directors from 2018-2021.  Luke has served as a member of the Scouts NSW Insurance Committee since 2017.

Thank you to Chris Buggie for acting in the role of DCC (Y&PS) in the interim. Chris has made important contributions during this busy time with delivery of the Program, and given extensive support to others across our Movement. His detailed understanding of the Youth Program and its implementation on the ground has been valuable, and appreciated by us all. The Great Scoutdoors was one of his highlights, of which Chris and his Team has every reason to be proud.
