Deputy Chief Commissioner (YP) Randall Jones has been recognised for his exceptional service to Scouting by receiving a Silver Kangaroo Award.
The Adult Recognition Award is given to those people involved in Scouting who give up their time to equip children with skills they need to serve the community, both now and in the future.
In qualifying to receive the award, Randall effectively established a new organisational structure and introduced a fresh approach to the delivery of the Youth Programme. Randall, 66, says he was “exceptionally delighted” to be recognised by his peers in such a way.
He said: “I’m really in shock. It’s not something I was looking for but it’s great to be recognised like this. It means the people managing Scouts recognise the work and results that my team and I are doing and the results that we’re seeing.
“It is a broader team that makes all of this possible and I’m lucky to be part of it.”
For Randall, seeing the smiles on young people’s faces after achieving something special makes the hours put in to the organisation all worthwhile.
He explained: “My connection with Scouts goes back a long time. I was given opportunities to make a difference in the community when I was a youth member. It enabled me to do so many things that I enjoyed, and to work with some great people.
“Seeing youth members being presented with the opportunities that I was and seeing the delight and smiles of achievement makes everything worthwhile.”
Randall has been involved in Scouting for more than 26 years and is known as an exceptionally strong team player and a highly effective problem solver.
Always happy to help, he also invests heavily in mentoring young Leaders and new members to his team. His peers seek him out for his sage advice and extensive knowledge of major events processes and activities.
Along with other Directors, Randall made an outstanding contribution to the success of the NSW Contingent to AJ2019. He worked tirelessly for over twelve months in the lead up to the event and worked exceptionally hard at the Jamboree to support our Contingent and help all the youth to have a positive experience.
Massive congratulations to Randall from all at Scouts NSW!
