NEW - Risk Management Policy At the July 2009 meeting, the State Executive Committee formally adopted the Scouts Australia National Risk Management as the policy for Scouts Australia NSW. District Commissioners' Guide The District Commissioners' Guide provides a "directional finder" for District Commissioners, particularly those new to their role as to the key areas of their appointment and the many sources of information and support available to assist them in being effective. View District Commissioners' Guide Job Descriptions for District Roles Property: Emergency Lighting & Exit Signage for Scout Halls The objective of this work instruction is so that managers of different Scout buildings can identify potential areas where asbestos is of concern. It must be realised that this is a guide only and that a full comprehensive asbestos survey should only be carried out by a competent person. Following a number of task force reports, research projects, and Leader Conferences it has become quite clear that there are many adults who would like to be a part of Scouting, but choose not to because they: - don't have the time to participate every week, or - can't afford the Uniform, or - are unable to attend all of the Basic training, or - a combination of all of these. While some Groups (or Formation, as appropriate) have no difficulty in finding Leaders, the vast majority struggle, especially in rural locations. Scouting, in listening to this feedback has created a new position (in NSW) to be known as the Associate Leader to assist in finding a solution. What is an Associate Leader? Put simply, it is providing an appointment in Scouting for Leaders who want to contribute to the Scouting Program but can only do so in a part-time capacity. In the first instance, there needs to be agreement between the Group and the applicant as to the time they are able to give (eg one - two nights per month, "x" weekends per annum, etc). These Leaders will then give consent to our normal "duty of care" checks and will complete one weekend or equivalent of Training (or be accredited through recognition of prior learning). Providing all goes well, the Group will then invest them. They will not be required to complete the normal In-service / Bridging Training or Basic Sectional Training. The detailed criteria / regulations for appointment as an Associate Leader is contained in this document. View Associate Leaders PDF The work consists of upgrading existing scout halls to comply with the current requirements of the Building Code of Australia, on a prescriptive or performance basis as assessed by the Scout Association's Building Code Consultant.
